Gathoni Wamuchomba Reunites with Gachagua Camp Ahead of 2027 Polls
Date: June 13, 2025
Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has made a notable political comeback by aligning herself once again with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, ending months of speculation about her political stance.
After a prolonged period of silence and public criticism of Gachagua’s leadership approach, Wamuchomba reappeared alongside him on Thursday, June 12, during a series of high-profile political engagements. The two leaders met at the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) offices in Nairobi before embarking on a joint tour of Githunguri Constituency and several areas within Kiambu County.
This marked Wamuchomba’s first public appearance with Gachagua in over six months. Addressing supporters in Githunguri and Banana towns, the outspoken MP made her intentions clear: she is backing Gachagua and calling on voters to reject President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 general elections. > “For those who thought I had left this camp, let it be known that I’m right here, and I’m calling for a one-term presidency,” Wamuchomba declared to a cheering crowd.
A Calculated Comeback
This marked Wamuchomba’s first public appearance with Gachagua in over six months. From Doubt to Dedication
Wamuchomba’s absence from Gachagua's events had fueled speculation about her political loyalties. Her recent meetings with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and other key figures had raised eyebrows and hinted at possible realignments.
In a March interview with NTV, Wamuchomba was critical of Gachagua’s political messaging, advising him to be more inclusive and national in his appeal if he hopes to lead Kenya in the future.
> “He doesn’t have to agree with me, but facts are facts. He already has support from the mountain; now he must stop overemphasizing it,” she said.
She emphasized the need for Gachagua to evolve from a regional leader to one who can represent all communities, particularly those who have long felt marginalized.
> “If Gachagua wants to be seen as a national leader, he must fight for all Kenyans, not just the Mt. Kenya region. The energy he used to fight for the mountain should now focus on forgotten communities.”
A Calculated Comeback
While she had previously responded cautiously when questioned about joining Gachagua’s new political vehicle, her latest appearance alongside him strongly indicates renewed allegiance. Political analysts see this move as a strategic alignment in preparation for the 2027 elections, with Wamuchomba poised to play a key role in the Mt. Kenya political landscape.
Her vocal support is expected to strengthen Gachagua’s base and consolidate his influence in Kiambu and beyond, especially as political coalitions begin to take shape.
As the race to 2027 heats up, all eyes will be on how Gachagua leverages this renewed support—and whether he heeds Wamuchomba’s advice to broaden his appeal nationally.
